About The Tenting Life

The Tenting Life blog was founded on the idea that tent campers are an underserved segment of the camping world.  This is a bit ironic because tent campers comprise the largest group of campers, primarily because it is so accessible.  The cost to go tent camping is very minimal, and many people choose to do this only once or twice per year.  As such, they do not want to invest a lot of money into something that they don’t do very often.  And yet, they still want, need and desire good information so that the next time they head out for a tent camping trip, they have the latest information and are better prepared for a great time in nature.

The Tenting Life aims to fill this void with information-packed posts from choosing your next tent to organizing your gear to what activities to pursue, whether you go solo or have a spouse, a couple of kids and a dog.  We’ll bring you new perspectives on tent camping and help you to find multiple uses for your gear so that you are never caught unprepared.  But most of all, we want to help YOU where “the rubber meets the road”, so if you ever have a request of something you want covered here, drop us a note and let us know!

About Darren Kirby

Hey there!  I’m the founder of The Tenting Life, and I started this blog because I looked around at the information out there and found that there wasn’t a good source that provided great information focused solely on the tent camper.  While tent camping is the easiest form of camping to get into, that doesn’t mean that you should grab a few things and head out unprepared.  On the contrary, I wanted to make a site that could provide new campers with solid information, delivered in short bites that wouldn’t overwhelm them.  I also wanted to provide more advanced information for those who have been camping for a while.  I personally have been camping for nearly 4 decades, starting out quite young with my parents.  I am fortunate to be able to carry on this legacy with my wife of more than 20 years, tent camping all along the way.  I hope you enjoy this site, and please let me know how I can better serve you at The Tenting Life!
